Back to college 03 July 2007
Dual media were once again asked by the local Blackpool and Fylde College if they would attend another in class session on campus. This time round we were there to demonstrate to local school pupils how IT in the form of web design and marketing is used in current day to day business and also act as judges on the students work.
James gave a lengthy discussion to the pupils on just how we work, what we do and our standards of quality in hope of inspiring potential course students to take action and learn the skills required producing high end web presences.
The pupils had been given recent guidance to producing a single page website by college tutors and today had the opportunity of showing us their capabilities and imagination at work.
The pupils had a couple of hours to research, plan and produce some kind of web concept. Giving the time period we were not expecting much if anything at all. But to our surprise the pupils really did excel themselves showing off html, design and marketing skills.
All groups had very strong points about their websites and some very creative concepts including an EBay style website to swap items instead of buying and selling. We were also introduced to the idea of a pink fluffy underwear website for both men and women which the group felt there was a lack off in the current market and therefore a great potential.
The winning group had produced a website for a planned indoor / outdoor web skating rink based in Lytham St Anne’s called Chilling. They felt there was nothing to do in the area at weekends and this was the answer. Also incorporated was some very clean layouts, relevant images and clever corporate identity.
Also on our visit we were given lunch and a tour around the colleges gaming facility where students can learn the art of the croupiers employment. We spent a good half-hour playing blackjack and spirits were high as we gambled big.
We felt the day was a great experience for Dual media and hope the students and tutors enjoyed our presence. We have been asked to attend again in the near future to give a talk on using Adobe Flash software for media animation. Watch this space
A special thank you for Virginia Madeley for the opportunity to work with the college and Ken Bason made us feel very welcome and originally taught director Andrew Brown Visual Basic.
